Biography

 

French-Italian conductor Karine Locatelli is developping a regular partnership with Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire, Royal Opera House Copenhagen, Reisopera Netherlands, Chœur de Radio-France, Opéra de Lyon.

 

Upcoming events include Battistelli 7 minuti, Lehar Die Lustige Witwe 2.0, Tan Dun Requiem for Nature, Sørensen Asle og Alida, Stravinsky Soldier's tale.

 

Karine Locatelli's accolades comprise Jury Special Prize in the Blue Danube Opera Conducting Competition Bulgaria (2021), conducting Bartok Bluebeard CastleMozart Don Giovanni, Bizet Carmen.

 

Whether in performances of Mozart RequiemCarmina Burana, Duruflé Requiem, Dixit Dominus Haendel, Mozart symphonies, or operatic répertoire La Bohème, Carmen, L'Enfant et les Sortilèges, Hänsel und Gretel, Karine Locatelli is renowned for her experienced approach and her knowledge in vocal and orchestral works. The sensibility of its interpretations is particularly notable. 

 

Recent engagements include Beatrice and Benedict, Daphnis et Chloé with Choeur de Radio-France, Orphée and Eurydice at Reisopera Nederlands, and most recently Peter and the Wolf with Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire.

 

As a chorus master, she is a regular presence in Denmark at the Royal Danish Opera House since 2015 where she took part of Verdi Vesper, Zauberflöte, Hoffmanns tales, Cenerentola, Daphnis et Chloé. Last season she conducted a concert with Royal Danish Opera Chorus at Gamle Scene Copenhagen.

 

She worked for 15 seasons at the Lyon Opera House leading the Maîtrise Children's Choir and wons with this ensemble the prestigious Liliane Bettencourt Choir Prize in Paris (2019).

She also worked and prepare the Choir in many productions and contribuated as assistant conductor in the house. She collaborated with several conductors : Emmanuel Krivine, Titus Engel, Daniele Rustioni, Kazushi Ono, Kirill Petrenko, Stefano Montanari, Elena Schwarz, as chorus master or assistant conductor in numerous operas : Turn of the Screw, Damnation de Faust, Mefistofele, Tosca, Perséphone, A Midsummer night’s dream, Peter Grimes, Manon, Werther, Messiah, Pika Dama, Zauberflöte, Suor Angelica, Macbeth, Carmen, Der Mond, Jeanne au bûcher, Pelléas et Mélisande, Peer Gynt, Orphée et Eurydice. 

Aside of a very intense chorus master activity, she also conducted : Hänsel und Gretel, Noye’s Fludde, Brundibar, The King and I, Les Enfants du Levant, La Bohème (french version), many operas for young audience, and concerts with the orchestra including Debussy Suite, Ma Mère L’Oye Ravel, Peer Gynt suite, Serenade Britten, Cantate St Nicolas, L’Arlésienne Bizet.

 

Karine Locatelli studied clarinet and conducting in Besançon, she's gradueted from Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris, and Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon.

 

In addition to her artistic activity Karine Locatelli teaches conducting at Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon.
